To create additional storeys there are tools available to automate the process. If the structure footprint is the same on each storey, the footprint can be duplicated to multiple locations simultaneously.
- Select any one of the six walls, right-click, and select Select All Similar
- Right-click again and select Duplicate To Locations.
- Holding the Shift key, select the Second Floor location and click OK.
- Click No when prompted to delete the original location.
A copy of the walls, doors, and windows is created on the second floor.
- In the lower left corner of the screen, change the current location to the Second Floor.
When working on the second floor, walls on the Ground Floor are visible, but you can’t select them in a plan view.
- On the Second Floor layout, select the door copied from the Ground Floor. Right-click and select Delete.
- The door is removed. Select the wall that the door was in. Dimensions will appear to indicate the length of the wall and its proximity to the adjacent walls.
- Hover the cursor over the dimension to the left of the selected wall, as indicated in the following diagram. As you hover your cursor over the dimension, the cursor will change to a hand. Left-click on the dimension.
- Change the dimension to 0 and click OK.
The second floor footprint becomes a rectangle.
- Select Insert > Windows, or select the Building toolbar tab and click the Windows icon.
- Select the Commercial Windows folder in the catalog and then the 2250×1500 Three Pane Aluminum Window. Move the cursor onto the drawing screen area.
- Right-click and select Center on Wall.
- Place the cursor on the left side of the front horizontal wall and left-click when it is centered on the wall.
- Select any one of the 4 walls on the second floor, right-click, and select Select All Similar.
- Right-click again and select Duplicate To Locations.
- Holding the Shift key, select the Third Floor location, and click OK.
- Click No when prompted to delete the original location.
A copy of the walls, doors, and windows are created on the third floor. There are further tools for adding roofs, floors and other items to build the model, however, the focus is on Sto panels. Other exercises are provided that focus on the other parts of the building. We are ready to start breaking the walls into panels.
